Commune NFK | Norfolk

Located in the beautifully restored Texaco Building in the heart of Norfolk’s NEON District, Commune NFK embodies a commitment to community, sustainability, and craftsmanship. When founder Kevin Jamison set out to create a space that reflected his passion for locally sourced food and responsible design, we were honored to help bring that vision to life.

Completed in Summer 2017, the project features handcrafted furnishings built almost entirely from reclaimed lumber with deep historical roots. The majority of the wood was carefully dismantled, piece by piece, from the original 1840s farmhouse at New Earth Farm — also owned and operated by Jamison. Each element was reimagined for a new purpose, preserving the spirit of the farm while creating a warm, inviting environment in the city.

Custom pieces included:

  • Coffee table — hand-hewn Cypress rafters and foundation beams

  • Dining tables — old-growth reclaimed Oak

  • Wall accents and trim — old-growth Pine tongue-and-groove siding

  • Pass-through kitchen counter — salvaged Black Walnut slab

Each piece serves as a continuation of Commune’s philosophy — honoring the land, supporting local artisans, and fostering connection through shared craft and purpose. The result is a space that feels both timeless and rooted, where history, sustainability, and design come together in harmony.
